ABOUT ME
Eric holds a Masters from the London School of Economics and is a career technologist with over twenty-five years spent in Europe and Asia building, designing, and running digital services. In recognition of his efforts to decarbonise digital, he has been named Computing's Digital Ambassador of the Year for 2023. He is World Green Technology Leader and the recipient of the Google Brain Award for the use of artificial intelligence.
Eric is the CEO and Founder of GoCodeGreen, a UK-based, independent, and global leader in ClimateTech with a mission to help decarbonise the digital world in which we all live. As part of a coalition taking digital action, GoCodeGreen is partnered with the United Nations agency for digital technology, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), standards bodies, and the World Bank.
GoCodeGreen is a two-time Earthshot Prize nominee, and a certified B Corporation committed to the triple bottom line of balancing people, planet, and profit.
Eric and his family live in Suffolk with Belle, a Sprocker spaniel who is Eric's best (non-human) friend. He's an avid tennis player, triathlete, sourdough baker, open-fire cook and martini drinker (gin, stirred not shaken).
THE BACKSTORY
Writing this book wasn’t part of the plan; I'm just a technologist trying to do some good, and the idea of putting pen to paper only came about when I was asked to recommend reading material on decarbonising digital and sustainable IT for a group of university students. I was stuck, having found what was available too focused on simply observing the problem. This is my best effort to share with others what I have learned over the past few years as a practitioner and someone wanting to tackle the problem. We have so little time to fight climate change, so if you are able to use any of the information and insight in this book to make a positive difference, I will be delighted, and you will have made the book and all the work that led to it worthwhile.
I simply ask that you treat my writing in the spirit in which it was undertaken, with pace rather than perfection in mind.
